A World Record could be broken at Saturday’s (August 2nd) Callanish Stones Marathon when an Edinburgh runner attempts to run it in Full Highland Dress!

Gavin Orr, from Harmeny Athletics Club, will attempt to complete the marathon in less than five hours wearing a kilt, sporran, full length socks, dress shirt with bow tie, waistcoat and jacket- which have to be fully buttoned at all times - and a hat.

The attempt has been certified by Guinness as meeting the criteria for an official World Record with the only concession being that he can wear trainers and not brogues.

Over 160 runners will take on the Callanish Stones marathon this weekend and over 70 in the 10k race. A Fun Run is also taking place which is also open to walkers. The event is part of Scotland’s Year of Homecoming events.
