Bòrd na Gàidhlig has given Glasgow City Council funding for a research project into provision for adult Gaelic learners.
The project aims to help in the delivery of the adult learning element of the city council’s Gaelic Language Plan and the wider aims of Bòrd na Gàidhlig’s Ginealach Ùr na Gàidhlig.
The research is being undertaken by the Caledonian Business School at Glasgow Caledonian University and is being led by Dr Douglas Chalmers, supported by Dr Lindsay Milligan and Professor Mike Danson of the University of the West of Scotland.
There are two main parts to the project. The first is discussions with current adult learners, examining their needs and motivations and their level of fluency and also discussions with current tutors. The second is an on-line questionnaire exploring similar issues for current Gaelic learners in the Glasgow area.
You can find the questionnaire at
The research will be published by June 2011. The funding is from the Bord’s Gaelic Language Act Implementation Fund (GLAIF).
