Pretty slow fishing for Stornoway anglers

With the fishing season now in full swing, Stornoway Sea Angling Club members were out again on Saturday to fish the July monthly competition.

The weather was fine, with a moderate swell, and though it stayed dry it remained very grey all day, with no sunshine.

There were nine anglers out fishing the competition aboard the Club boat — 'SYSAC II' — mainly off the Dalmore/Dalbeg area, though the anglers finished off down at Shawbost at the end of the day.

The fishing though, was pretty slow all day, with the numbers of fish well down on the usual, apart from coalies, mackerel and herring, which seem to be in abundance.

The monthly competition winner was Donnie Morrison with 88.6 points, 18 fish and 18.80kg. In second place was Paul Akister on 88.4 points, 20 fish and 12.70kg, with CJ Buchanan third with 88.2 points, 23 fish and 13.60kg.

All in all, very close indeed!

On Saturday, July 17 the annual club championships will be fished on the West Side. A good turnout is hoped for, and there is a list up in the clubhouse.

After that, the next competition is the Western Isles Open, which this year is on Friday, July 30 and Saturday, July 31 of this month.
