Miss Dugdale met motor neurone disease (MND) campaigner Margie MacLeod at her home in Stornoway.

Speaking after the visit Margie said: “It was pleasure to meet Kezia for an hour today. She’s got real focus, energy and is a lovely person. As a friend of the most high profile MND campaigner in the UK, Gordon Aikman, she is well aware of the challenges facing MND patients.”

Kezia Dugdale said: “It was the highlight of what was a great day on Lewis. Margie is coping with such grace and fortitude and supported by a fantastic network of family and friends. The campaign to fund a cure for MND goes on, but the work done by people like Margie and Gordon should never be underestimated.”

Alasdair Morrison added: “Kez was able to summon Gordon Aikman on FaceTime. Finding a cure for MND is now firmly on the political agenda but the campaign to fund the research must never cease.

“Margie’s own efforts on Lewis have seen her raise in excess of ten thousand pounds in a short period. She’s a remarkable and special woman.”
