New coronavirus case in Western Isles not related to South Uist outbreak

Three more people in the Western Isles have tested positive for Covid-19, according to the latest update from NHS Wetsern Isles.

Two of the cases related to the existing cluster in South Uist, Eriskay and Benbecula; and there is one unrelated case in North Uist.

Gordon Jamieson, NHS Western Isles chief executive gave the latest update last night, stating: “That brings the total number of cases in the South Uist outbreak to 40, and one additional new case.”

He added: “There are no other additional cases anywhere else in the Western Isles.”

Mr Jamieson said the health board had launched a very helpful infection prevention and control video.

“It will take you through some of the very important measure that we all need to continue to take to help us to control and suppress this virus,” he said. “I would recommend that you review the video and carry on taking these precautionary measures.

“If we all do that then we have the best chance of suppressing and controlling this outbreak.”
