The damage we are doing to our planet is becoming more and more apparent each day. As a result, some celebrities are making a conscious effort to raise awareness and save the planet. But who is the most influential?

Clearitwaste.co.uk asked more than 1,600 Brits to name a celebrity they think had the most potential to help save the world from environmental disasters, such as global warming.

The celebrity voted the most influential when it comes to making a change is no other than Sir David Attenborough.Interestingly, he is the only celebrity on the list to not be active on social media - his TV presence is more than enough to earn him the love and respect of the British population.He is best known for writing and presenting, in conjunction with the BBC Natural History Unit, the nine natural history documentary series forming the Life collection that together constitute a comprehensive survey of animal and plant life on Earth.Planet Earth was so popular it became a stage show with huge screens and live music.

Second on the list is Elon Musk, the famous engineer and entrepreneur, who is trusted by 78 per cent of Brits when it comes to saving the planet.

Although controversial at times, 66 per cent of Brits believe in Greta Thunberg making a change.The young activist has a staggering four million supporters on Twitter, despite just turning 17 years old.The Swedish environmental activist has gained international recognition for promoting the view that humanity is facing an existential crisis arising from climate change.Thunberg is known for her youth and her straightforward speaking manner, both in public and to political leaders and assemblies, in which she criticises world leaders for their failure to take sufficient action to address the climate crisis.

Coming in ninth position is ex-US president Barack Obama, with almost 50 per cent of Brits believing he has the power to influence people to save the planet. Obama has the most followers on Twitter - 119.3 million - showing his clear influence all over the world.

Bill Gates and Oprah Winfrey also make the list.
